Tangshan recently launched optimization and integration, as well as retreatingfrom city and relocation of 13 steel companies around the main city, involving51.35 million tons of steel production capacity. It is reported that these 13enterprises will be relocated to Leting, Fengnan and other coastal industrialparks in Tangshan. The reporter learned from the Development and ReformCommission of Tangshan, Hubei Province that the city recently launchedoptimization and integration, as well as retreating from city and relocation of13 steel companies around the main city, involving 51.35 million tons of steelproduction capacity.
Tangshan is a major steel industry city in China. Despite of promoting localeconomic development, steel industry has caused serious pollution and resourceconsumption. Lang Wenchang, deputy director of the Tangshan Development andReform Commission, said that heavy-duty enterprises such as steel and coking inthe urban area of Tangshan and within 25 kilometers of the city havecontributed 70% of the pollutants in the downtown area, and the urbanenvironmental capacity is almost saturated. In order to optimize the layout ofsteel industry and promote the harbor and railway layout of steel industry andother heavy chemical industries, Tangshan initiated the optimization andintegration, retreating from city and relocation, upgrading and reconstructionof 13 steel companies around the main city. It is reported that these 13enterprises will be relocated to Leting, Fengnan and other coastal industrialparks in Tangshan, involving 27,370,000 tons of steelmaking capacity and23,980,000 tons of iron production capacity.
